Tips to Alleviate Aches and Pain While Traveling

Avoid Travel Pain with Tips from French Family Chiropractic in Erin and Clarksville

The summer months often include travel plans, whether it be by plane or a cross country road trip. French Family Chiropractic would like to help everyone prepare for their travels by offering some tips to help minimize the chance of aches and pains ruining the trip. Your preparations for traveling start before you pack the first item. When your trip is still in the planning phase, make sure that you leave yourself ample time to stretch before and during the time you are traveling. Even if this means that you have to wake a little earlier on the day you have to leave, it will be well worth it.

Proper Posture can Alleviate Stiffness

No matter how you are traveling, be sure to practice proper posture. Your back has a natural "S" curve in it. Use pillows or rolled up blankets to help keep this curve in your back so that your muscles and spine don’t ache while you are sitting. You can place these items in your vehicle or pack them into a small carry on bag if you are traveling by plane, train or bus.

Take the Time to Stretch

During the trip, get up to stretch your legs. If you are driving, you can control when you stop to stretch, so plan frequent stops. If you are on a plane, you need to do this only when the seatbelt sign is off. You should only do this if a bus is stopped or if it is safe to move about the train. You can do some stretches in your seat by making circles with your feet. Doing leg lifts in your seat can also help. Move your arms and head around to keep the upper body muscles loose and free from pain.

Body Mechanics are the Key

As you are handling luggage, make sure that you aren’t making any sharp movements or trying to lift items that are too heavy. Seek help or pack in smaller suitcases if you won’t have help.
